The Morecare Crab Walker provides adjustable chest, arm and pelvic support to help selected adults practise supported upright positioning under caregiver or therapist supervision.

The pelvic sling provides partial body-weight assistance, while the remaining weight-bearing requirements depend on the user's assessed physical abilities.

Gait Training and Walking Practice

The eight-wheel configuration allows the walker to move with the user during supervised stepping activities.

With the brakes released appropriately, users who can participate in stepping may practise initiating movement, moving forward and stopping on suitable level surfaces.

Weight-Shifting Exercises

The adjustable support arrangement can be used for therapist-directed weight-shifting activities and controlled postural tasks as part of an individual rehabilitation programme.

Neurological Rehabilitation

Crab Walker may be considered for selected individuals undergoing rehabilitation following stroke, spinal cord injury or other neurological conditions affecting standing and walking.

Suitability depends on functional ability, standing tolerance, postural control and the required degree of assistance rather than the diagnosis alone.

When Another Solution May Be Better

• A person requiring complete body-weight suspension or full-body lifting should use a separately assessed patient hoist or body-weight-support system. Crab Walker is intended for partial assistance only.
• Individuals unable to safely bear the required portion of their weight may need a different type of supported standing or rehabilitation equipment.
• A static standing frame may be more appropriate for someone whose primary requirement is assisted stationary standing rather than stepping.
• Users with substantial head or trunk instability, severe contractures or unpredictable movements require an individual specialist assessment.
• The eight-wheel support base does not eliminate the possibility of tipping, falls or loss of balance.

• The pelvic sling has a confirmed tested load capacity of 150 kg.
• The complete walker has a maximum user-weight rating of 150 kg.
• The sling is designed for partial body-weight support only.
• The sling must not be used for full-body suspension or patient lifting.
• The appropriate degree of assistance must be established according to the user's abilities and rehabilitation plan.
• Check sling attachment points, stitching and positioning before each use.

Wheel Locking Instructions

During entry and transfer

• Engage all eight wheel brakes.
• Confirm that each castor is securely locked.
• Use the appropriate caregiver-assisted transfer method.

During support fitting and stationary standing

• Keep the wheels locked.
• Adjust the frame, chest supports, arm supports and pelvic sling.
• Confirm that the user is appropriately supported before proceeding.

During gait training

• Release the wheel brakes as instructed.
• Ensure that the walking path is clear.
• Provide the required caregiver or therapist supervision.
• Do not attempt walking while the wheels are locked.

Essential Safety Instructions

• Use the walker only under appropriate caregiver or therapist supervision.
• Adjust and secure every support before use.
• Ensure the user can participate safely in the planned weight-bearing and stepping activities.
• Use the walker on firm, level and stable surfaces.
• Avoid stairs, steep slopes, slippery floors and unsuitable obstacles.
• Do not exceed the 150 kg maximum user weight.
• The wide eight-wheel base does not guarantee fall prevention.
• Check for excessive pressure beneath the chest, arms or pelvic sling.
• Stop use if the frame, wheels, locks, supports or sling show signs of damage.
• Never use the walker as a full-body lifting device.

Cleaning and Maintenance

• Clean the stainless-steel frame with a soft cloth and mild detergent.
• Clean the chest pads, arm supports and pelvic sling according to their material-care instructions.
• Remove dirt, dust and hair from all eight castors.
• Inspect wheel brakes, adjustment knobs and frame joints regularly.
