Stroke can affect lower-limb strength, balance, coordination and the ability to initiate or control steps. For suitable users who can participate in supported weight-bearing, the Lotus can provide additional pelvic and back positioning assistance during physiotherapist-directed standing, weight-shifting and walking practice.

Hemiplegia and One-Sided Weakness

Individuals with hemiplegia may have unequal weight bearing, difficulty shifting weight onto the affected side or reduced walking stability. The adjustable butterfly sling and hand grips can be set up to assist a supervised gait-training programme. Suitability depends on arm function, trunk control, lower-limb capacity and clinical assessment.

Supported Standing and Balance Practice

When the user can participate in standing but requires help maintaining a suitable position, Lotus may be used for supervised static standing and controlled weight-transfer tasks. Wheel brakes and support components must be set according to the approved instructions before the user enters the device.

Neurological Gait Rehabilitation

Selected people with acquired brain injury, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, incomplete spinal cord injury or other neurological conditions may be considered for supervised walking practice. Diagnosis alone does not establish suitability, and the level of external assistance must be clinically assessed.

Home-Based and Clinical Therapy

Lotus can be incorporated into an appropriate programme in physiotherapy clinics, rehabilitation centres or suitable homes. The fixed approximately 24-inch frame width, floor conditions, turning room, doorways and caregiver assistance should be assessed first. Outdoor use is limited to smooth, level surfaces as stated in the product record.

Realistic Outcomes

The device is intended to make selected supported standing, weight-shifting, stepping and walking exercises more feasible. It does not guarantee independent walking, improvement in muscle strength or prevention of falls. Rehabilitation outcomes depend on the user's condition and programme.

Who May Be Suitable

• Adults with stroke, hemiplegia or other neurological mobility difficulties who need more pelvic and back positioning support than a conventional walker provides.
• Users who cannot stand fully independently but can still participate in assisted lower-limb weight-bearing or stepping.
• Users up to 120 kg whose body size, arm function and posture fit the standard frame and supports.
• People approximately 5–6 ft+ tall, provided the frame, hand grips and pelvic support fit their individual dimensions.
• Users able to train under appropriate caregiver or rehabilitation-professional supervision.

When Lotus May Not Be the Right Device

• The person requires full body-weight suspension, mechanical lifting or a bed-to-chair transfer: consider a separately assessed patient hoist or overhead-supported rehabilitation system.
• The person cannot safely participate in lower-limb weight-bearing or does not have the arm/trunk control needed for the prescribed setup.
• The person needs extensive trunk or head support that the standard Lotus configuration does not provide.
• The intended doorway, room or walking route cannot accommodate a fixed approximately 24-inch frame with enough additional clearance for movement and assistance.
• Uneven floors, stairs, slopes or rough outdoor terrain are part of the expected walking route.

Before Each Use

• Confirm that the user can participate in assisted standing/stepping and does not exceed the 120 kg maximum user weight.
• Check the stainless-steel frame, folding connections, sling attachment points, adjustable back support, hand grips and four wheel brakes for damage or looseness.
• Fit and secure the butterfly pelvic sling according to the approved instructions. It provides partial body-weight support only.
• Set the back support and telescopic hand grips for the user's assessed posture and abilities.
• Choose a stable, unobstructed and level surface, with suitable doorway and turning clearance.
• Lock all four castors while the user enters or exits the frame and during stationary standing activities. Use the approved assistance method; the frame is not a patient hoist.

During Standing and Walking

• Use appropriate caregiver or professional supervision as required by the user's assessment; do not leave a dependent user unattended.
• Release the castor brakes only when ready for supervised walking practice, according to the manufacturer's handling procedure.
• Watch for pain, dizziness, excessive fatigue, instability, sling shifting or poor positioning and stop promptly if these occur.
• Do not use the sling to suspend the user's entire body weight or lift someone from a bed, chair or floor.
• Avoid slopes, steps, loose surfaces and obstacles. Any outdoor use must be restricted to suitable smooth, level ground.
• Remove or adjust the pelvic sling or back support only when the user's ability and therapist's assessment allow it.

Cleaning and Routine Maintenance

• Wipe the stainless-steel frame with a soft, damp cloth.
• Clean the sling, padded support and hand grips using a mild cleaner suitable for their materials; allow components to dry completely.
• Avoid abrasive cleaners, bleach, harsh chemicals and pressure washing.
• Keep castors free from dust, hair and debris; routinely test all wheel locks.
• Inspect straps, attachments, foam padding, folding connections and adjustable mechanisms for wear; stop using the equipment if a component is damaged.
• Arrange maintenance and replacement parts through Morecare when required.

Folding, Transport and Storage

• Remove the user before disassembly, folding or transport.
• Separate/fold the frame using the approved two-piece procedure and protect the sling, back padding and castors during transport.
• Recheck all frame connections, positioning adjustments and brake locks after reassembly.
• Store indoors in a clean, dry place. The published expected life of approximately 5–7 years is an estimate dependent on use and maintenance.

Important Limitation

Morecare Lotus is an anterior supported rehabilitation gait trainer—not a full-body suspension lift, wheelchair or patient-transfer hoist.
