Anterior Walking Practice

Some children need walking support positioned in front of them. In its anterior configuration, Poppy may be used during supervised gait training where the physiotherapist determines that the child's balance, arm position and trunk control suit forward support.

Posterior Walking Practice

In its posterior configuration, support is positioned behind the child. This may help selected children practise a different upright alignment and stepping pattern. Posterior positioning is not automatically appropriate for every child or every stage of rehabilitation.

Cerebral Palsy and Neurological Rehabilitation

Poppy may be considered for children with cerebral palsy or other conditions affecting posture, balance and gait who can actively participate in supported weight-bearing and stepping.

Trunk and Pelvic Positioning During Walking

The contoured chest support, butterfly harness and adjustable pelvic sling offer configurable body positioning during gait practice.

Realistic Outcomes

Poppy enables selected walking, stepping, posture and balance practice with external support.

It does not guarantee independent walking, improved gait mechanics, prevention of falls, or a fixed rehabilitation result.

Who May Be Suitable

• Children approximately 8–13 years old, about 3–4.5 ft tall and weighing up to 50 kg, subject to measurement and functional assessment.
• Children with cerebral palsy, developmental delay, hypotonia or other neurological movement difficulties who can participate in supported standing and stepping.
• Users who benefit from anterior or posterior walking support, adjustable chest positioning and a pelvic sling.
• Children whose therapist identifies a safe walking plan and whose home or therapy environment is suitable for a wheeled gait trainer.

When Poppy May Not Be the Right Walker

• The child requires full body-weight suspension or an overhead gait-training harness.
• The child cannot safely participate in lower-limb weight-bearing or stepping in the selected configuration.
• The child requires more extensive head, trunk or postural support than Poppy can provide, including after feasible customization.
• The primary need is stationary standing, seating, wheelchair transport or patient lifting.
• The intended route has steep slopes, stairs, rough outdoor surfaces or unsafe thresholds.

Anterior or Posterior: Which Mode to Choose?

Anterior mode puts the walker ahead of the child; posterior mode places it behind.

The right choice depends on posture, trunk and arm function, step initiation, balance and the therapist's goals.

Do not assume that every child must start anterior and then progress to posterior.

Measurements and Information to Share

• Age, height, current weight and measurements relevant to chest and pelvic support fitting.
• Current supported-standing ability, step initiation, balance and hand or arm use.
• Current walker or support equipment and therapist recommendations.
• Short standing or walking video, shared with appropriate consent, showing the child's typical posture and gait pattern.
• Floor surfaces, doorways, turning area and whether the walker must be regularly folded or transported.

Before Each Walking Session

• Confirm the child remains within the 50 kg maximum user limit and is clinically appropriate for supported standing and gait training.
• Inspect the aluminium frame, folding joint and safety lock, height-adjustment buttons, chest support, butterfly harness, pelvic sling, wheels, brakes and fasteners.
• Confirm the walking configuration is set according to the child's therapist and the manufacturer's current procedure.
• Set the five-level frame height and chest/pelvic positioning for the child's measurements; securely lock all adjustments.
• Apply the wheel locks during positioning, entry, exit and equipment adjustment.
• Check the environment is flat, stable and free from obstacles and dangerous slopes.

During Walking

• Secure the chest harness and pelvic sling as instructed, without excessive pressure or restricting breathing.
• Release brakes only for the prescribed walking activity after confirming the child is appropriately supported and supervised.
• Watch for fatigue, pain, poor alignment, instability, foot interference or sling migration. Stop if the child becomes uncomfortable.
• Use only level indoor or appropriate smooth outdoor surfaces; avoid stairs, curbs, loose ground and slopes.
• The pelvic sling is a positioning/support component, not a lifting harness or full-suspension system.
• Supervision requirements depend on clinical assessment; independent operation should not be promised solely from age or diagnosis.

Changing Modes, Folding and Transport

• Remove the child before converting between anterior and posterior modes, folding or adjusting frame configuration.
• Follow the approved tool-free conversion procedure; check the folding safety lock, wheel placement and all support attachments after reconfiguration.
• Never fold or transport the device while occupied.
• Store the folded walker in a clean, dry indoor environment without placing heavy objects on it.

Cleaning and Maintenance

• Clean the anodized aluminium frame with a soft damp cloth and mild cleaner.
• Wipe padded components and straps with appropriate mild soap solution; dry thoroughly before reuse.
• Do not use bleach, harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners or pressure washing.
• Clean wheel assemblies and test the provided wheel locks before use.
• Examine straps, buckles, supports, fasteners, height-adjustment and folding mechanisms regularly; arrange service when damaged or loose.
• Preventive inspection is recommended every 12 months.
• The published 5–7-year product life is an estimate, not an extended warranty.
• Use genuine Morecare replacement parts and stop use until structural or safety-related problems are resolved.
