Postural Seating for Children With Cerebral Palsy

Children who cannot consistently maintain head, trunk or pelvic alignment may need adjustable support to participate in seated activities.

Nesta combines a contoured headrest, lateral trunk supports, four-point pelvic harness, abductor and foot positioning components to help establish an individually assessed sitting position.

Feeding and Daily Care

With a suitable upright seating position and the included activity tray, Nesta can be part of supervised mealtime and daily-care routines.

Feeding and swallowing safety must be assessed for children with dysphagia or other medical concerns. The ability to recline does not mean the chair should be reclined during feeding.

School, Learning and Play

The removable height-adjustable tray provides a work surface for reading, writing, drawing, computer activities and games.

Check fit with actual desk and table heights rather than assuming compatibility with all furniture.

Speech, Occupational and Physiotherapy Sessions

Therapists may adjust head, trunk, pelvic and foot supports to achieve the seated alignment needed for individual communication, upper-limb activities, play and exercise tasks.

Clinical goals and outcomes differ for each child.

Home and Rehabilitation Settings

The powder-coated steel chair can be used in suitable homes, schools, therapy centres, rehabilitation clinics and hospitals where the child can be supervised.

Its four castors are intended for caregiver-assisted repositioning over appropriate level surfaces, not independent wheelchair travel.

Who May Be Considered

The product record lists cerebral palsy (GMFCS II–IV) and selected children with Down syndrome, hypotonia, muscular dystrophy, SMA, developmental delay, Rett syndrome, spina bifida, acquired brain injury or other conditions affecting sitting control.

A diagnosis alone does not establish appropriate fit.

Realistic Outcomes

The immediate function is to provide an adjustable, supported sitting environment for selected daily activities.

Nesta does not guarantee correction of spinal deformity, improvement in posture over time, independent feeding or improved communication.

Who Is Nesta Suitable For?

• Children approximately 6–15 years old, with individual size and fit review; the maximum user weight is 50 kg.
• Children who need adjustable head, lateral trunk, pelvic and foot positioning for daily seated activities.
• Children using therapist-directed positioning programmes at home, school or in a rehabilitation setting.
• Children for whom the published 15-inch seat width, 14-inch seat depth and 18-inch seat height are appropriate, or where a supported custom configuration can be agreed.

When Another Seating System May Be Better

• The child needs tilt-in-space or whole-seat tilt: Nesta does not have either function.
• A clinically prescribed transport wheelchair, vehicle seat or crash-tested child restraint is needed: Nesta is not represented as one.
• The child needs positioning features or pressure-management components beyond Nesta's current configuration.
• The seat or backrest dimensions, head/trunk support or transfer setup cannot be fitted safely, even after proposed customization.

Measurements and Information Before Ordering

• Age, height, weight and current seating equipment.
• Hip width, thigh length, lower-leg length, sitting shoulder height and head-support needs.
• Trunk control, head control, pelvis and hip position, foot posture, contractures and pressure concerns.
• Front, side and rear sitting photos or a short video when appropriate and shared with consent.
• Intended use: meals, desk work, school, therapy, play or supervised rest.
• Physiotherapist or occupational-therapist recommendations.
• Available doorway/room space and required desk/tray height.

Before Every Use

• Check that the child is within the 50 kg maximum user-weight rating and that the chair has been fitted for their current body dimensions.
• Inspect the frame, rear wheel brakes, reclining backrest lock, headrest, lateral supports, pelvic harness, abductor, footrests, foot straps and activity tray.
• Set the head, trunk, pelvis and feet in the positions recommended by the treating therapist; avoid excessive strap or support pressure.
• Lock the rear castors whenever the chair is stationary, during transfers, meals, therapy or backrest adjustment. The product has rear locking castors; do not assume the front wheels lock.
• Ensure the child is supervised by an adult/caregiver during use.

Reclining and Position Changes

• The backrest is manually adjustable through a range of 90°–180° and must be adjusted only while the chair is stationary with its brakes applied.
• Maintain appropriate support of the child during adjustment and confirm the mechanism is fully secured before use.
• There is no tilt-in-space or seat-tilt function.
• Upright positioning for eating and swallowing should follow clinical feeding advice. Do not assume reclining or fully flat positioning is suitable for sleep or unattended use.
• Review sitting duration and pressure relief with the treating therapist. The recommended guidance is up to two hours, but this is not an automatic safe limit for every child.

Moving the Chair

• A caregiver may reposition the chair with the child seated on a suitable smooth, level indoor surface after ensuring positioning supports are secured.
• Do not use it for transport on roads, steep slopes, uneven terrain, stairs or in a vehicle.
• Re-engage the rear wheel locks before stationary activities.

Cleaning and Inspection

• Clean the powder-coated mild-steel frame with a soft damp cloth.
• Use mild soap solution on the breathable upholstery and PU foam cushion, and allow everything to dry fully.
• Wipe the wooden activity tray after meals and activities. Keep moisture away from wooden edges and adjustment hardware.
• Keep caster wheels free of hair and debris. Check locks, adjustment knobs, straps, fasteners and the reclining mechanism frequently.
• Avoid bleach, abrasive chemicals and pressure washing.
• Stop using the chair and contact Morecare if any structural part, strap, lock or adjustment mechanism is damaged or loose.
• A preventive inspection is recommended every 12 months.
• Estimated product life is 5–7 years with proper care and maintenance. This is not an extended warranty.

Important Activity Tray Safety Note

Morecare confirms the 50 kg evenly distributed activity-tray load rating for the current configuration.

This rating is distinct from the chair's 50 kg maximum user weight.

Keep the tray secured and use it only as an activity or work surface.

Never allow a child to sit or stand on the tray, never use it for lifting or transfers, and avoid impact or concentrated point loading.

Follow the manufacturer's approved tray-loading instructions.
