After Years at Home, Guddu Stepped Into a New Chapter with His First Supportive CP Chair

For most families, getting into a car and going somewhere is an ordinary part of life.

For Guddu and his family, it had become something much more difficult.

Guddu has significant support needs and cannot simply be seated in a conventional chair and taken outside. Whenever the family needed to go somewhere, they had to lift him, place him in the car, support him during the journey, and lift him again when they reached their destination.

Over time, the physical difficulty of this process meant that going outside became increasingly rare.

After years of rarely going out, Guddu left home with his family and travelled to the Morecare Experience Centre in Jaipur.

The journey

When Going Outside Became Difficult

Guddu's family had wanted to take him outside for a long time. The problem wasn't the desire to go out. It was how to take him. Whenever Guddu needed to travel, a family member had to lift him, place him in the car and physically support him. At the destination, the lifting process would begin again. Something as ordinary as an outing therefore required considerable physical effort from the family. As they explain in their video: “Going outside in a car sounds very normal. But for Guddu, it is not that simple.” This created the need for something more than an ordinary chair. A Car Ride After So Many Years

On the day of the visit, Guddu was carried from home and placed in the car, where his mother supported him on her lap. It had been a long time since he had travelled outside like this. During the journey, he kept looking through the windows as his mother showed him things along the way. At times he appeared excited; at others, the unfamiliar experience seemed uncomfortable. But he remained curious about everything happening around him. For the family, the journey itself was important enough to record. Because at the end of it was something they hoped could make future outings easier.

The family eventually reached the Morecare Experience Centre in Jaipur. Guddu was carried inside, where he immediately began interacting with the people around him in his own way. Although Guddu does not speak verbally, his family explains that he finds his own ways to communicate. That became particularly important during the fitting process. The objective wasn't simply to assemble a wheelchair and place Guddu in it. First, the team needed to understand Guddu himself.

First Understand the Child, Then Adjust the Chair

Before finalizing the BlueFlax setup, the team evaluated how Guddu was sitting. They looked at his posture, the position of his legs and the amount and type of support he appeared to require. For the family, this was one of the most important parts of the experience. They had understood something fundamental: For a child with significant postural needs, simply owning a wheelchair isn't enough. The wheelchair needs to fit the child. Only after considering these requirements was Guddu placed into the BlueFlax.

Guddu Meets His New Chair

Sitting in this type of supportive wheelchair was an entirely new experience for Guddu. His first expression said almost everything. The family jokingly described his reaction as if he were wondering: “What is this new thing?” Rather than expecting him to immediately accept an unfamiliar seating position, he was given time to experience it. The safety harness was fitted and his positioning was checked. The team continued observing and communicating with Guddu to understand whether anything appeared to be bothering him. Adjustments were made around him rather than simply demonstrating the chair in a standard configuration. As the family put it: “They didn't just focus on showing the product. Understanding Tilt and Positioning Support

Once Guddu had begun settling into the chair, the family was shown the BlueFlax's different functions. One of the important demonstrations was tilt-in-space. For equipment used regularly by a child, the ability to remove and clean fabric may seem like a small feature, but the family immediately recognised its practical value. The fitting wasn't rushed. This was Guddu's first experience sitting in this type of supportive chair, trying unfamiliar positions and experiencing tilt. Initially, he appeared somewhat uncomfortable and uncertain. So he was given time. The family particularly appreciated that the process continued until they had spent enough time checking the chair and allowing Guddu to gradually become more familiar with it.
