As Her Son Grew, a Basic Travel Wheelchair Was No Longer Enough: A Family’s Search for Better Seating, Learning and Mobility Support

Purnima Verma is the mother of twins, one of whom is a child with cerebral palsy and special mobility needs.

As her son grew older, the family's requirements changed significantly.

The simple wheelchair they had been using was primarily suitable for travel. But at around nine-and-a-half years of age, his daily needs had become much broader.

He needed a seating solution that could support not just mobility, but also learning, play, therapy, posture, rest and everyday participation.

Outgrowing a Basic Travel Wheelchair

As Purnima's son grew, the family realised that a basic wheelchair could no longer meet all of his daily needs. The earlier chair was useful mainly for transportation. Both products have now been delivered to the family. However, because the child has recently undergone surgery, the family has not yet started the full trial and regular use. Their immediate focus is recovery. Once medically appropriate, they plan to gradually introduce the wheelchair and walker and understand how both solutions fit into his everyday routine.
